How your beliefs will destroy you.
Every single person on this planet was indoctrinated with beliefs as a child.
You can’t escape it.
The place you grew up in, the people you grew up around, and your home environment all helped mold your beliefs.
These beliefs formed unconsciously through repetition, culture, and early experiences.
Most beliefs that you hold are quite obvious.
Whether you believe in a God.
How you think the government should function.
But those aren't all your beliefs.
The real problem? The beliefs running your life that you can't even see.
Living Someone Else's Script
Your subconscious is loaded with limiting beliefs, from useful ones like “fire burns” to destructive ones like “I’m not smart enough for success.”
From an evolutionary perspective, there’s nothing wrong with limiting beliefs that keep you from doing things where you might fail and possibly hurt yourself doing. They keep you alive.
In the modern age, however, limiting beliefs can actually be quite harmful when they reference your character.
How? Most limiting beliefs were programmed into your brain before you could think for yourself. You environment forced different ideas in front of you, causing you to believe them.
When something is repeated enough times, you will believe it. It doesn’t matter how outlandish it might seem at the time. You can’t stop it.
There is no escaping it. Our brains are trained to accept any idea from our parents and environment. That’s how we survive.
The best we can do is to challenge these beliefs once we know they exist.
The Journey to Freedom
There is only one way to escape limiting beliefs.
Step one: Find them.
This is much easier said than done. These beliefs are hard to find on purpose.
If you could remove the ability to fear touching fire, you could easily die.
Finding your limiting beliefs requires constant proactive effort. You must examine your subconscious actions and discover the causes.
This is hard. It takes time.
But eventually you will begin noticing patterns.
You’ll start seeing cycles.
Triggers.
Responses.
Thought processes.
You need to question everything you believe.
Especially the things that seem obvious.
The things you take for granted.
Mental experiments are a super useful tool for this.
But what if certain limiting beliefs are actually true? How do you know?
The Difference Between Truth and Error
The biggest difference between truth and error is that truth doesn’t mind being tested.
It can withstand any counter argument.
Error will crumble the moment a valid counter hits it.
Truth won’t.
You can apply this principle to your limiting beliefs.
Can you prove them wrong?
Can you diminish them using reason?
If not, you may have a truth.
So test it.
Experiment.
What happens when you act as the belief is incorrect?
What if you act as if it is correct?
After enough trials, it becomes extremely apparent whether a belief is true or not.
Limiting beliefs can ruin your life.
They can cap your progress because of what your parents or environment told you.
But if you discover these beliefs, test them, and then choose to disregard the falsehoods, you can unlock infinite potential.
It’s all about looking inside.
See you on the next one.
